5 stars when it works. 0 when it doesn't connect. I use it with my Kenwood DDX9704S. Tons of issues connecting on my Pixel 2 XL, but none with my Samsung S8 plus. You would think by having a pixel device it would work flawless. Can't be my head unit since only issue is with this phone. I've tried 10 different. USB-C cables to make sure it wasn't that. From 5 star to 1 start to 5 stars to 1 star and now 4 stars. Google keeps making changes that keeps breaking everything. Sometimes it work and when it does, it is great, when it doesn't work you will find yourself fiddling with while driving (which is of course the exact opposite of what you should be doing). Seriously Google test the apps out before you release a new version. That is just common knowledge. And back down to 1 star. The new update does not allow you play your artist via voice (at least through the default music app). You now have to listen to what they think you want to listen too. Sorry Google I will no longer be buying my music from you. Switching to Amazon and buying my music from them,. I like purchasing my music, not streaming it. Full Review

Great app. Let's me focus on driving without having to squint at a small screen to see who's calling. The Maps feature does freeze somewhat regularly, though. Update: I'm now using a phone with Oreo. I reinstalled AA and it prompts me to allow it to draw over over apps. I've enabled it but it is still promoting. Doesn't work for me. Sad, because I really liked it. Full Review

Music interrupts upon any action. Have to ask Google to continue playing or push the appropriate buttons myself. Car stereo restarted a handful of times on a 2017 model car, weird. Had to be plugged in to use, Bluetooth would be far better experience. Overall needs work but to fix bugs but like what it has to offer. Full Review

It was working fine until and update ago. Now every time I make a call, the Bluetooth will disconnect on its own and you have to reconnect it manually. This is MAJOR safety hazard and its concerning because it not longer makes this app "hands free". Also, it would be nice if Sirius XM was an option for music. Full Review

Does not really work with my new car, Hyundai Ioniq 2017 which the app was not updated for. I have contacted support four times with zero replies. So until this is fixed I would say DO NOT INSTALL if your car is not supported. May work on some cars but VERY BUGGY!!! I do NOT recommend this app at all! Support is nonexistent!!! The support team is USELESS!!! Full Review

When projecting in the car it works well enough. Definitely more capable than Apple's CarPlay with the iOS system. There are some hiccups in the display not buffering quickly. I also wish the compatible apps were more easily available..though I suppose as Google Assistant evolves this won't be as big of an issue. Full Review

The worst!! With Pioneer 4200nex radio I was able to set up Android auto from my S7 edge, but now when I connect my USB I get a msg on my radio screen to check phone for notification... Nothing happens and I can't even use my radio as to why and what I purchased this for.I have no Android auto features on my radio only in the phone it launches.. I want to enjoy all the features of my Pioneer 4200nex with Android Auto .. There needs to be a fix asap. Full Review

I don't like this app in its current form. You can't access your Google Calendar from the app. You have to open your calendar, then click on an address within your schedule, that opens Google Maps, the you have to go to Android Auto and that's way too many steps. Automate by BitSpice has a much better interface with a lot more features. Full Review

I enjoy the app and use it on my car's screen, but it's a little buggy. Sometimes it won't understand a text if it's more that about two sentences. It's also quite slow. It would be great if there was a way to have the weather on the home screen after you've swiped away all the cards. That way you can see the time and date plus the weather. Finally, I have a Pixel 2 XL that shows the song you're listening to on the ambient display. I often prefer to listen to the radio in the car, so it would be great if it could show the song playing on the screen! Full Review

I had been using apple car play earlier and i think SIRI was able to understand indian accent better than OK Google. Secondly, it only shows recent call logs unlike apple car play which shows all the contacts. Android Auto is better looking than Apple car play but requires a lot of improvements with respect to Apple car play. Full Review

Now that Waze support is being worked on and in beta, the number one issue I had is gone. There are still some minor annoyances/nannyisms like the six-tap limit, lack of an app drawer, and the automatic/non-customizable do not disturb setting. I'd love to see a battery-conscious dark theme or additional customization options (one background?), better music app integrations, and an always-present Google Assistant button. Full Review

I think the app does what it is supposed to and does it well. While I know texting while driving isn't a good habit there are times I need to look at a notification at a stop light it to see if I need to pull off. If the app isn't Android Auto enabled I need to disconnect and shut it down before with can see it. It is a little frustrating. Other than that, it is a good app that I think has some great features. Used it on Kia van rental. Really liked the way it connected and was able to use the apps i wanted to use. Google or Waze maps or the 5 music apps. Now I'm going to look for a aftermarket radio for my cars. The only thing was that the Kia USB wasn't able to keep up with my Samsung Galaxy 8plus charging. That's a Kia issue. Full Review

What happened with the new update?? Voice recognition for texting is not working. It adds the word "message" in front of everything and then won't send and keeps asking if you want to change or cancel. It's terrible. Still not working for texting after multiple updates. Says what's the message and adds that phrase to the message or won't even send. Full Review

Some great features on Sync 3. Unfortunately, my experience is damaged by Android Auto silencing all meeting reminders. What's so hard about transferring those to my car. Perhaps the engineer that's working on that feature keeps forgetting due to silenced alarms. Come on Google, get with it! Full Review

Text responses actually send from Google voice!!!! I've never been able to do that from Google Assistant. Love the UI, perfect for Washington where "single finger operations" are the only allowed contact with one's phone. The larger buttons and text make quick glances possible and productive. Would be 5 stars if not for 1. A bit laggy, could be my phone but it takes a few minutes for the car Android auto to start after plugging in the phone. 2. Need more messaging app integration. I.e. Line 3. Hopefully one day this can be powered over bluetooth Full Review

I wish I could alter the volume of content being played by Android Auto. I have to turn the car volume way up to hear anything, then when I switch back to the radio the volume is super loud. Otherwise love it. As with a lot of Google apps I suspect this will improve as it matures. Full Review

Nice a pretty easy to use makes you pretty well hands-free only complaint is sometimes OK Google won't do what I ask when I'm in Android auto mode. I'm sure this is probably a safety thing but it forces me to pick up my phone which is less safe in my opinion. Full Review

SCREEN BURN! Be careful using on your phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and due to the fact that the navigation bar and mic icon are static it has now caused a shadow of the icons and edge of the bar to be permanently displayed on my screen. Shame as I like the app and until now I used daily. Will not use in the future unfortunately..... Full Review

Android Auto assist me with handsfree commands rather nicely. It actually is more accurate than my GMC Link software in finding my contacts. I use it for weather, directions, calling and texting! Flawless so far, but I gave it 4 stars, as it does not integrate with my Audio system, to change my stations etc. Rather limited right now. Full Review

This app is hit or miss. It crashes fairly often in my 2018 Crosstrek. After the recent update after using Android Auto my ringtone is muted by AA. The only way to get my ringtone back is by restarting the phone. If/when it works it is quite useful. I only wish the bugs would be fixed and then this would be a 5 star app. Full Review

The app has improved a lot, with the addition of reading messages, I'm almost 100%, the problem is that replying sometimes doesn't hear my commands and then asks to try when it's safe to use phone. It's not that it doesn't understand, it just can't hear them. And the main annoyance is when replying or starting a message, even though my phone is configured to voice-type in multiple languages, this app only understands English. Functionally, it is petty good. I'm not sure if the receiver is at fault or the app, but the blue tooth for phone is terrible. It routes all the sound through the tweeters, so it's hard to hear the other person clearly. Then trying to disconnect the app while on the phone doesn't work well either. Needs some serious work. Mine keeps hanging up and turning off. And for some reason when it autostarts, it always starts playing one of 3 songs, even if shuffle is selected. I love this app, especially since my 2018 Explorer has Android Auto built in! I just connect my phone and it pops up as an option. So nice to control Google Assistant from the steering wheel! I have one suggestion, and one only, for improvement - if I want to use my phone, I shouldn't have to disconnect it and kill Android Auto. But hitting the home button is useless while it's connected, because Android Auto hijacks the whole thing. Otherwise, great and convenient! Full Review

As someone who reviews cars on a weekly basis (DoubleClutch.ca), I have had the pleasure of testing out various functions of Android auto across many new car platforms and one old car retrofitted with a new head unit. So far, the ability to read out messages, send messages verbally and make phone calls and navigate via speech is fantastic. I'm not sure why there are so many people complaining something doesn't work as I've yet to run into major issues. I have noticed that the phone does tend to run heavily when Android Auto is in play so older devices that are taxed already for memory might be the issue. Would highly recommend clearing out memory and storage. Full Review

I would have loved it if I could switch my android auto apps, there are better apps that I have used. Otherwise I really like it. It works great in my xperia. But, is very buggy in my honor. So, that's why removing one star. And, i really wish it would let me read my messages myself as, my native language is hindi, and when hindi is narrated by Google, it turns out really out of context. My phone disconnects from the car within ten minutes of plugging it in. I have to unplug then reinsert the USB in order to continue using. I like the fact that I can use Waze with Android auto. The setup looks a little basic but I will assume it's because they want to keep it simple while driving. The concept is nice but there's room for improvement. Full Review
